Marin VillagePROGRAM: The Village Concept - Helping Seniors ‘Age In Place’
Seniors face challenges as they age, but rather than moving to a facility that provides services, many want to stay in their own homes, in familiar surroundings and among neighbors and friends. The “Village” movement addresses a variety of seniors’ needs and has swept across the nation. New “Villages” are being developed here in Marin, enabling seniors to age in their homes with grace, confidence, and peace of mind.

We were privileged to have four representatives from MARIN VILLAGE, including the founder and Board president, Loulie Sutro, and the executive director, Jo Burnett, who explained what it’s all about and how it works. Services are practical as well as social, and there is a substantial volunteer component, so some people may want to help “pay it forward” and volunteer within the organization. Marin Village can help members with transportation, assist with daily activities and run errands. Whether it is offering yoga classes at a discount, a ride to a doctor’s appointment or the grocery store, changing an out-of-reach light bulb, weeding the garden, finding a babysitter for the grandchildren, or help solving a computer problem, Marin Village can help.

Villages are forming throughout the United States, so come find out about it at this informative presentation – for yourself or someone local, and for loved ones in other locations, too.

Attended from Marin Village:
– Loulie Sutro, founder and Board President
– Jo Burnett, Executive Director
– Trish Hibben, Board member
– Barbara McDonald, Chair of the Ross Valley Village Steering Committee
