2nd TUESDAY LUNCH (POTLUCK)
January 8, 2008: Twin Cities Update #1
35 women attended the 2nd Tuesday Potluck Luncheon on January 8, 2008.
The topics were:
1. TUHSD Modernization
An update on the Tamalpais High School
District modernization
(including the swimming pool at Redwood High School) was given
by Sarah Schoening (facilities director) and introduced by Susan Schmidt
(school board member). There were several questions about the new
Redwood High swimming pool, mainly about its availability for community
members. Susan Schmidt is contacting the school and the rec departments
to find out what the plan will be for public use of the pool.
•
For
questions about the pool, contact Susan Schmidt at susanschmidt1117@yahoo.com
or call her at 924-9289.
• For information about the progress of
the modernization, go to http://www.tamdistrict.org/modern/index.htm,
or contact Sarah Schoening at 945-3710.
2. Quick update on THE VILLAGE expansion plan.
Becky
Reed reported on the community input meetings held in October and November
by the MaceRich Company, owner of the Village. They
want to expand the retail space within the confines of their site now,
which would require a parking garage. (They would not expand across
the street to the wetlands area.) They might also include housing,
restaurants, and office space. At the meetings, they got input
from various groups about the issues that are important to our community.
What they are able to build depends largely on the new Corte Madera General
Plan, which is in the Draft Admin. EIR stage.

see the Draft General Plan.

General Plan EIR & MaceRich/Village (pdf)

Madera housing needs (pdf)
3. Quick update on the CM COMMUNITY CENTER plan.
Jana
Haehl reported on the proposed plan for a new Community Center. It
was accepted (not approved) by the Town Council last month. The
center would be approximately three times the size of the current Rec
Center, and it would cost an estimated $26 million. No further
action is being taken on the plan, as far as we know.

more information.
4. Status of the NIVEN PROPERTY in Larkspur
Larkspur
Mayor Kathy Hartzell gave a brief summary of the plan for the Niven property
(the old nursery on Doherty Drive, across from Hall Middle School). The
Council agreed unanimously that the new plan presented in concept form
met the criteria of “significant community benefit” and
voted to allow the applicants to revise their application reflecting
the concepts presented on Dec. 19. The changes they had made for
that meeting included a project where 2.79 acres of land would be dedicated/donated
for public purpose, 85 homes including 29 single family detached, 6 workforce
housing cottages, 8 (3 affordable) senior cottages and 42 (5 affordable)
senior units in a multi story building, with affordable housing mixed
in the project, including second units in the single family housing.

5. The Larkspur Centennial
Kathy Hartzell reported on
the plans for the Centennial Celebration on March 1 at Hall Middle School.
She is also looking for ideas of old-time contraptions to display or to
let kids try, like an old typewriter or dial telephone. If you can
volunteer or if you have ideas or old appliances to lend, contact Kathy
at centennial@larkspurcityhall.org.
There will be other events throughout the centennial year, including a
Rose Bowl Dance at Escalle Winery on September 13, with a 1940’s-style
big band. Tickets will be limited, and will go on sale on March
1.
